A city government with pride in its community and businesses.

 

 

The City of Morrison is a general purpose unit of local government providing various traditional municipal services to the community's 4474 residents.

Morrison operates under the Mayor/Council form of government with an appointed City Administrator.  The Mayor, City Clerk, and City Treasurer are elected to four (4) year concurrent terms of office, council members are elected to four (4) year staggered terms of office.

 

Organizational Structure

The Mayor, Council, and City administrator represent the primary legislative and administrative level of city government, the Mayor being the Chief Executive Officer and the City Administrator being the Chief Administrative Officer.

Municipal services embrace ten (10) functional areas, including: Legislative, Administrative, Police, Streets/Alleys, Sanitation, Parks/Forestry, Water/Sewer, Cemetery, and Recreation.  In addition to referenced direct services, fire protection is provided on a contractual basis through the Morrison Fire Protection District.

Approximately twenty (20) full-time employees are in the classified service of the City; additional part-time employees are hired on a seasonal basis.

Numerous council committees and advisory boards comprise the municipal administrative organization.

Finances

The City's FY operating budget totals approximately $2,504,284.  Revenues are generated from a variety of traditional sources, including but not limited to Property Tax, Sales Tax, State Income tax, Corporate Replacement Tax, Motor Fuel Tax and User Fees.

Location Of Offices

Administrative offices and Police Department are housed at the Morrison municipal Building, 200 West Main Street.  Water/Sewer and Street Departments share a common complex located at 500 West Winfield Street.  Water and Sewer Treatment facilities are also located within the complex.

United States Department of Agriculture

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) office is located 16255 Liberty Street in Morrison.  The USDA office offers a variety of programs and services to the people of the Morrison area as follows:

Various farm related programs and loan products for local farmers and farm businesses (the Farm Service Agency)

Technical services to farmers and other residents related to conservation and habitat development efforts (Natural Resources Conservation Service)

A link to federal loan and guarantee programs for housing and business and industry (Rural Development)

Whiteside County Offices

Morrison is the county seat of Whiteside County.  The county offices for law enforcement, legal and courts are located at 200 East Knox.  The Whiteside County Highway, Highway Garage and Public Works facilities are located at 18819 East Lincolnway.
